Saturday, August 21st, 2021
Bangla warriors first division played against Toronto Rhinos, one of the strongest teams in the division. Moreover, it was a pressure match for warriors to increase their chances of cementing a place in the playoffs. First division captain Tauhid won the toss and decided to bat first. Lamoreaux outfield was very slow with a pitch that did not offer anything special except for the occasional pops from good length. Two youngsters Afnan and Mushfique started confidently as Afnan hit a beautiful six over long on. On the other end Mushfique also played a good hand. However, after losing three quick wickets Ishaq and Aminul showed their experience and built a Crucial partnership of 51 runs when Rhinos bowlers were bowling beautifully. When both Aminul and Ishaq got out in quick succession; Tauhid and Zobair built a partnership of 40 runs to get the team to a respectable position. After the break, when Warriros came on to defend the total of 153 runs Toronto Rhinos openers were in a hurry and they wanted to finish the chase off quickly. Both the openers were taken by Aminul’s crafty leg spin. After the rapid opening partnership was broken wickets started to fall on a regular interval with Tawsof bowling beautifully with superb support from Zubair and Faruk. Zobair took an extraordinary catch at the boundary of Faruk to get Tamma out, one of their most dangerous batters.

With 30 needed of the last 26 overs and 2 wickets Rhinos superstar batsman Aamir Khan tried to win it from one side. However, Tawsif was brilliant to finish it off in the first three balls of this third spell. Overall, it was a crucial win for the warriors, and their first against Toronto Rhinos in three attempts. This increased the chance of the first division team to qualify for the playoffs tremendously with two more matches to go

Shamiul - the hurricane

SHAMIUL! SHAMIUL! That was the chanting going in the ground and why not, Shamiul scored 223(139) not out what a flawless and merciless innings by Shamiul. Bangla Warriors players had few injuries from last week match, including the skipper Nowroz who had sit out and his deputy Ehtesam was not available to lead the team today. Mostafa, one the senior player was the stand up the captain for today’s match against Island Warriors and he was in a good mood when the total on the board was 348/5 this is was the highest total posted by Bangla Warriors.

Mostafa claimed the toss and decided to bat first, Shamiul and Zobaer started the innings well both openers gave a good start and then when the total score was 31 Zobaer nicked it to the keeper and headed back, the top order showed some resistance but wickets were falling. 96-4 Score on the board Shamiul has completed his 50 by then and Mostafa joined him in the middle they put up a good partnership of 85 runs and Mostafa headed back to the pavilion scoring 28(39) but before going back, Shamiul had completed his 1st hundred of the season and was joined in the middle by his partner in crime Nayeem. Nayeem played an excellent supporting role with Shamiul, as he realized mother nature has a different role and the jet took off. Shamiul’s 223* included (19×6)(13×4) the opponent Island Warriors had no clue how to stop Shamiul. They tried bouncers, yorkers, cutters but either those ball dispatched for six or four. He brought his 200 by square cutting the ball to the gully region for four. The umpire looked at his watch at 3:50pm umpire called of the 1st innings due to time restrictions, few us were so adamant that Shamiul could have scored 250 or more but rules are rules.

The game was called off at the end due to rain and the points were split between the two teams, Shamiul you have played an inning that we usually watch it on tv, so thank you for witnessing it live. We wish you the very best for the rest of the matches and hoping the jet that took off doesn’t come down anytime sooner.

First Loss for 1st Division Team

Match Report Desk: July 10, 2021

After a great win last week, Bangla Warriors B, First division team, lost this weekend.

Losing the toss BW has been asked to field. 2nd bowl of the 1st over a difficult chance was put down by the gully fielder and the opponent opening pair took advantage of it putting 81 on the board before Omar Faruk drew the first blood and few overs later Omar Faruk removed the second opener as well. The gateway has been opened and wickets felt regularly despite the few dropped catches BW managed to stop AJAX CC at 174/10 .

Tauhid Islam led from the front and kept his cool through out the innings with taking a brilliant catch running back and using the bowlers cleverly. Another highlight of the show was a brilliant run out by Syed Ashfaque. Brilliant bowling performance by Zobaer, Rakibul, Faruk and the veteran Porag.

Chasing 175 should have been an easy but losing the 1st wicket without any score on the board put some pressure on and it doubled up on the next over when the 2nd wicket fell. Skipper Tauhid and Faisal D showed some resistence but right after the drinks Tauhid top edged a ball and walked back towards the dressing room. Faisal D tried his best with whomever he batted with and at the end he had to walk back with being the top scorer of the game 35.
